This song was built around a text by a young poet whose work I like very much. But they eventually didn’t give me the rights to use it. Though I completely understand and respect their point, I was disappointed because I liked the song as it was.
At that time, I was working on another song, called ‘The Body Electric’ after the famous poem by Walt Whitman, entitled “I Sing the Body Electric“. This is a long nine parts text about human physicality, of which the song uses the final part, which is the final answer to a question expressed in the first part: “And if the body were not the soul, what is the soul?”.
So I decided to use the first part of Whitman’s poem for my orphan song, so “I Sing…” and “The Body Electric” are two tracks composed around the opening and ending parts of the same poem.
